Levelling Sheet

Recount Sample

Peeeew!!! peeew!!! peeew!! the fireworks flew high into the pitch black, night sky. The fireworks sounded like missiles were being shot all over the sky. It lit up the sky with blue, red, yellow and other colors. It looked as if paint was being splashed. Roger stood there amazed at the sight with his Uncle, Nan, Mum and little Brother.

“Let’s light some on the road” said his uncle Tyrone

Roger grabbed the lighter and some little guy fawkes. He set off these little circle ones and put them on the road. He seen them starting to spin like balls of fire. They dashed all over the road.

“Wow!!! those ones are cool” said Zack as he sat down on the grass in amazement.

I seen our neighbours lighting there ones up too. Boof!! Boof!!! Boof!!! they sounded like gunshots.

“Let’s get the sparklers” said Mum.

She lit ours up and gave us one each. Roger was trying to pretend that he had a wand. He was acting like I was doing spells on Zack. Later on We grabbed the roman candles out of the box of fireworks. Zack held one and my uncle set it off. It glided into the sky and exploded into a fiery explosion. His Uncle Tyrone grabbed another roman candle and set it off. Again it made a huge outburst as it blasted through the sky.

As the night went on we had run low on guy fawkes. That night was a really fun night with my whanau and we got to spend so much fun with them. We had fun seeing guy fawkes all over the sky and ground. That’s a night we will never forget.

WEEKEND RECOUNT

Schloop! as the wet, slimy green stuff hit me. In the weekend Tim, Konrad, and I went to the falls. Also Gerry and her family were already there. “Ready?” I asked Konrad as we were getting ready to run and dive in.
“Hard,” he replied.

Firstly, Konrad and I dived straight in. POOF! POOF! POOF! Konrad and I were bombing one after another. “Show us a whippy, eh Konnie!”
“YOOO” Konrad jumped, the girls and I were in total silence waiting for him to hit the water. And then SPLASH!.

Konrad and I headed up to the top to get some slimy stuff to shoot the girls.

Then, splat, as the girls blind shot us. “You lot are gonna get smoked now” I yelled.
“Hahahahahahah” the girls wouldn’t stop laughing.
“Let the game begin” I yelled.

After a while Konrad and I had got a bunch of slime and headed towards the falls again. Then suddenly SPLAT, SPLAT, SPLAT. As Konrad  and I got ambushed. Gerry, Sylvah and even Letisha were just hammering us with the slime.

So then Konrad and I shot off back towards the top, still remaining calm. “Come! We’ll make a big stack then go down and smoke them!”
“OK,” Konrad replied in excitement.

Getting, nearer and nearer to having a huge pile Konrad and I started getting pumped up.
“Ready Es?” Konrad asked me.
“Born ready bara” I replied, thrilled to go kick some butt.

“Please I surrender” I heard Konrad say to the girls. So I dashed out with some slime, chasing Letisha out of the falls and almost on to the road. Then I heard her trying to surrender. But no, not this time. “I’m not falling for your tricks” I said to Letisha, throwing my slime all over her.

Finally I heard Nana Balu yell out to the girls “Come on. Let’s go.”

“Yes” I mumbled under my breath.

My Narrative

Falls.

“Yessss!!” Shaun whispered to himself, as he was allowed to go for a swim with the boys. Roger, Greg, Jarryd, Jonathan and Shaun were at the Tautoro Falls. Roger did a bomb off the rock at the Tautoro falls. Kapoooooooooof! The water went high as. Shaun jumped out into the cool water from off the rock PIPOOOOOOOF! Shaun’s whippy went huge.

It was Sunday. They had all walked all the way from Kaikohe. All that they could smell was fresh water. All that they could hear was the water dropping into the water at the bottom of the waterfall.

As Shaun again jumped into the water and performed a whippy it had started to rain, then out came Greg. Greg said “I’ll do a backflip aye” so he jumped and performed a backflip bomb into the water.

Then they all decided to do a bomb chain. They stood in a row and waited to go one by one, Shaun first, then Greg, then Jarryd and then Roger. “Far out! That was humongous, eh Roger” said Jonathan.

Then they were all doing their bombs. Kaboom! Shaun and Roger did a bomb at the same time. Greg did a mean as Whippy and it went high as.

“Ghee that was dumb” Greg said to Shaun.
“Bro your all cake I’ll smash you!” Shaun replied angrily.
“Kean!” Greg replied. So then they started having a fight and Shaun punched Greg into the water.

“Bro stop it you idiots!” Jarryd yelled at those boys.
“Ok then” they replied at the same time.
“Jynx” Hahahahahaha they both smiled and laughed at each other.

At the end of the day they all had fun doing bombs and Shaun can’t wait to go to the falls with his boys again, because it is a  a lot of fun.

Art Survey

Arts Survey

Describe your ability as an artist. What do you like about Art?
What I don’t like about art

I can’t draw to save my life.  I tend to rely on Google drawing and Google images to create art posters etc.  I do like building and creating things with my hands though, like when we had to use plasticine for our animations.

Describe your ability as an actor/ presenter. What do you like about acting/ presenting?
What I like about Acting/Presenting

I’m a pretty confident actor.  I enjoy expressing myself and I’m not afraid of being in front of a camera.  I actually think it would be pretty cool to be an actor as a career. We’ve had to do short films/skits this year for te reo. It was cool and I really enjoyed it.

Describe your ability as a dancer. What do you like about dance?
I don’t like to dance because I can’t dance…..BUT I’m going to  start dancing because I hate not being able to do something. I think I’m going to give hip hop a go.  I’ve chosen to be in the dance group for our end of year performance so I plan on watching youtube videos and dance films to get some ideas.  I like that it’s another way of expressing yourself.

Describe your ability as a singer/ musician. What doe you like about music/ singing
I don’t like singing too because I know that I can’t sing.  I feel like I sound flat.  I only like singing in Kapa Haka because they’re Māori songs and usually we just keep the same low note, nothing too high.  Plus, it’s a part of my Māori culture.

Animation Advert

This is a photo of mine and Te Ari Jack's Planning Sheet

On my planning sheet I have 4 scenes full of what I'm going to create in my animation.
Scene 1 - The police are trying to shoot the bank robber.
Scene 2- A little kid walks in the way.
Scene 3 - Police shoot the little boy and the robber runs away.
Scene 4 - The robber does some drifts in his car and crashes into the bank and dies.

Creating the advert.

WALT: create a 30 second advert.

SC

  1. Create a 300 photo shot  advert.
  2. I or 2 close-up shots on your character - portrait or close-up on facial shot
  3. Audience must know what you are advertising. Image and slogan must be provided.
  4. Movements of character or characters must be fluid, slower, more body movements shown.
  5. Add Title at the beginning and credits at the end. Don’t forget the music that reflects your mood for your advert.

My Reflection

The things that went well are: Videoing, planning, team work, building our characters, what we were advertising, creating our scene, following all the success criteria.
The learning that took place are: Learning how to video, make animations, using Plasticine, working as a team, using Stop Motion App.
I'm proud of: How it turned out for our first animation, How good it was, Mine and Te Ari's teamwork, Our movements were good so it made it look better.
I will improve on: Keeping my hands out of the way, making sure you can't see people in the background, Better looking characters, being faster to finish.

Poll shows no threat to current flag

Title
Date
Summary
Poll shows no threat to current flag
21/10/15
None of the alternative national flags are likely to pose a challenge to the existing flag in upcoming referenda, a new poll shows. They’re voting for the best flag out of five and the one with the least votes will be eliminated.Prime Minister John Key said this afternoon that changing the flag was always going to be a difficult task. I think the flag should not be changed because the soldiers died under that flag and over half of NZ don’t want to change it. In fact 3 consecutive polls have shown that most New Zealanders don’t want the flag to change. In all three polls nearly three quarters did not support a flag change.

Ghostly Narrative

MY SCARY  CAMP

Some people don’t ever get the opportunity to share their experiences with facing death.  Thankfully I’m here….alive to share one of the scariest moments of my life.  My name is Jarryd Inglis and this is my tale.

One dark, cold, calm evening, Greg Hayne, and I were at the camp grounds in Gold Coast, USNZ. Greg and I always headed out onto the water at lake Tautoro. It’s said that there are lots of Taniwha in its deepest, darkest depths.  Their eyes make you forget who and where you are. Their scales are so colossal you’d seem like an ant against it.

I was told to beware of that lake because a lot of people have died in it. Greg and I didn't believe the stories we were told though. We were on the boat and we steered to the farest pontoon so we could loosen up. We climbed up gently as the pontoon rocked side to side.  Then unexpectedly, we heard a BIG growl.  Greg and I started licking our lips and gulping down big chunks of air.
“G, what was that?”I asked.
“I don’t know G, we should gap it” whispered Greg.
Leg muscles tightening, we jumped into the boat. Gripping the steering wheel tightly, Jarryd turned the key in the ignition.Thank god it started! As fast as he could, Jarryd steered the boat back to shore. We realised that after a while we weren't moving. The shore seemed the same distance away from when we started.

Body shaking, we decided to just lay down and say a karakia to the Atua. “Please, please let me get home.  I promise to be good” I repeated over and over.

BANG. Out of nowhere our boat started swaying.  We ended up in the water with our boat slowly sinking into the dark depths below.
“Dammmm bro this can’t any get worse,” Greg stated.
“REALLY BRO?” I was pretty frustrated at this stage.
The water rippled, “What was that?” Greg screeched.  “Sh*&, I swear something just slid by my legs”.
“AArrgh, bro lets gap it to shore” I shivered.  I was running on adrenalin.  I wanted out of this friggin water.  “Bro, I’m never going to question…” my voice got clogged.
“Greg!  Bruddah!” Turning frantically in a circle I couldn’t see him anywhere.  I dived underwater.  I couldn’t see a thing.  Breaking the water’s surface I looked around again, hoping to see my best friend.  Heart pumping I dived again.

“Yesssss finally we got out of that trap” I said, so we made our way to shore and we heard another BANG and we were stuck again. “Dammm Bro were stuck again” said Greg Hayne then I replied “Far rats g”.  “Bro we might as well just lie down and wait till later and hopefully they have left”. “OK”. BOOM. BANG. And the water started splashing all over the place. We were still laying down waiting for the sea monsters to go away.

To top that off, the monsters or taniwha were back and we are terrified at this moment.

Writing Sample

Esmonde
Cross Country

“Kikorangis hot to go h o t t o g o hot to go” Blue team chanted as we walked across the court.  Last Friday we, Tautoro School had our Cross Country Day over at Whaea Rosina’s farm.

“1,2,3 GO!” shouted Whaea Rosina. BOOF! BOOF! BOOF! the ground goes as the Twelve Year Olds and I took off. With Journey and I leading just after 200 metres. Mr Lindsay said “Go blue team go” then we turn around the corner and there's Whaea Gaylene singing out our chant to encourage us to run faster.

“COME ON ESMONDE” I was thinking in my head as I had reached the bottom of the hill. “Wow there's no one to be seen” I said quietly. “Yesssssss” I’m at the top, BOOF! BOOF! BOOF! again but this time only i’m running by myself zooming down the hill.

I was pacing my run starting to slow down. Coming around to where Whaea Janett and Whaea Janice where. I get right down to by Whaea Janice and she says “good boy Esmonde”
“Thanks Whaea” I replied.

Going through these trees thinking “Wow I’ve actually got a good chance of winning this race so I pick up my pace and start running again. Then I see Jessie and Sam
and they start encouraging me. At this point my T-Shirt is half way off and i’m sweating like a waterfall with my tongue out panting like a Dog.  “Yes one lap done” I say as I past the finish line. Konrad yells out “GO EAH ES”
“shot” I replied with happy and tiredness. I’m making my way towards Mr Lindsay and Whaea Gaylene and then I started running again.

Making my way to the top of the hill I started to slow down.  Whaea Meri says “I think you could catch those girls at the top of the hill Esmonde”
“Thanks Whaea” I replied. “Getting there getting there and there” I said in my head as I caught up to the girls on my way down the hill, HUFFING AND PUFFING I overlap the first pod of girls.

Still huffing and puffing I make my back to Whaea Janice she says “well done
Esmonde.” Then I see Peri, Gerry and Maraea and I try to catch them as well.
“Yeah I said as I Pasted them.”“WOOOOOW I Won” I said to all my mates who had already ran.

In Conclusion We all had a very brilliant day at Cross Country and Blue team won the most points of the day.
